So what brings the Jazz Trained, Brass Band Background Trumpet Diva Edwina Thorne from Auckland, down Dunedin way in June'
both of course!
Edwina will be practicing with the Kaikorai Brass band at their brass band camp in June in preparation for the National Brass Band Contest in Invercargill in July, as well as playing jazz concerts with Will Martin and Craig Sinclair at the Original Robbie Burns Pub, 374 George St on Saturday, June 6th at 9.30pm. Edwina obtained a music degree at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston and then lived in New York where she completed her M.B.A while playing and studying with leading Jazz Giants like Art Blakey, Dizzy Gillespie, Woody Shaw, Freddie Hubbard & Mel Lewis to name a few.
Edwina has released 5 albums and travelled extensively playing at major Jazz Festivals such as Jazzmandu Festival in Kathmandu in Nepal last year , Istanbul jazz Festival, Turkey, Rue Denis jazz Festival in Paris, Cape town Jazz Festival, South Africa, and every major jazz festival throughout New Zealand, and the Pacific such as , the Fiji Jazz n Blues Festival, Samoan Jazz Festival.
Edwina is a consomate performer and entertainer and this rare local performance is not to be missed.
