Portobello Blues Festival – darn good music for darn good people
The Portobello Blues Festival unites local and national talent to provide a high quality musical experience in a family-friendly environment at an affordable price. The Festival is a three-day programme of concerts, family activities and workshops held in the various Portobello venues which will be staged 6-8 March 2015 for the first time. Confirmed in the line-up are: King Leo, Tahu & the Takahes, Strait Shooters, One Good Eye JT, Matt Langley, Stig Eldred ‘The Piano Man’, and the Suzanne Ellison trio.
The Portobello Blues Festival is being created to provide a cultural programme based on blues music - entertainment, interaction and learning - which different members of the community will enjoy and be proud of. It will cater to a wide cross-section of the Dunedin and outlying communities: children, youth, young and older adults, and more mature residents.
The festival is unique to Dunedin because over and above providing a rich music programme of pure entertainment, it will also provide workshops for children and open mic sessions for teens and young adults, led by professional musicians and/or teachers who will share their knowledge of the blues. Blues is a style of music already embraced by most people in the community and can be classified as ‘easy listening’ for a large majority of the population, young and old alike.
Proceeds will go to the Yellow Penguin Trust and the Peninsula First Response team.
