A Low Hum presents - A Movement Tour

A special 25 event tour happening throughout March to celebrate the release of A Movement ten book photographic series along with the A Low Hum film and the release of legendary Auckland band Xandus debut album on vinyl. The shows will take place in book stores, record stores, bars, community halls across the country and will include exhibitions, film screenings and a mini one night festival.

Highlights:
A bunch of great acts are playing on this tour, too many for me to tell you about every one, but a couple are worth pointing out:

XANADU
A vastly influential Auckland band, described as Sonic Youth meets the 3Ds meets Black Sabbath meets Prince, XANADU will be playing their first live shows in over 12 years on this tour which doubles as the release shows for their LONG overdue debut vinyl album release. One of XANADU’s last shows was reviewed in the very first issue of A Low Hum zine in January 2003 and a collection of their unreleased recordings were the first in a special set of albums released with each A Low Hum magazine in 2006. To read an amazing piece by Duncan Greive published in A LOW HUM detailing just why you shouldn’t miss this band.

SARAH MARY CHADWICK
In the early 00’s, a band appeared in Wellington that blew everyone away. When I decided to tour bands with each release of A Low Hum magazine there was only one band I wanted to headline that very first tour - Batrider. They took their music around the world, relocating to London and doing multiple tours of Europe and also living in Australia becoming underground favourites there and touring America. Throughout multiple lineup changes there always remained one constant: the introspective songwriting of the singular SARAH MARY CHADWICK who on this tour will be playing from her incredible catalogue of solo work, as well as doing a few very special sets of Batrider songs.

SHOCKING PINKS
The legacy of Nick Hartes songwriting over the past decade, released on DFA and Flying Nun, is a massive influence on New Zealand underground pop music - but his bands live shows have been legendarily hit and miss. To this day theyre the only band I’ve toured and received letters of complaint about! I’ve seen multiple variants of the SHOCKING PINKS live line-up since 2003 and trust me when I tell you, the current line-up blows everything away. Who knows how long this iteration will last, but you do not want to miss them.

LIAM FINN
I met Liam in the early days of his first band Betchadupa whom I photographed on multiple occasions, weve been close since. Liam was one of the first contributors to the A Low Hum photo-copied zine, sending me his photos of Betchadupa on various tours. His debut solo show, as Lester Osbourne, was at the first Camp A Low Hum in 2007, where he took everyone by surprise with his mad loop-master performance.
On the A Movement tour Liam will be performing a very rare intimate solo show at the Newtown Community Theatre in Wellington as well as an even rarer solo performance of some Betchadupa songs at Slowboat Records.
