Wellington experimental rock duo Into Orbit will return to Napier for a show at The Cabana on Thursday 28 May.
Into Orbit are a dynamic duo of guitar and drums whose immersive, genre-defying sound contains aspects of post rock, prog, metal, ambience and drone. They independently released their debut album Caverns in August 2014, earning them high praise from critics and fans alike. Often compared to post rock and progressive bands such as Jakob, Russian Circles, Tool and Pink Floyd, the duo have earned themselves a reputation as one of Wellington's finest rock acts. Anyone who’s seen them will testify, the Into Orbit live experience is not one to be missed.
Joining them will be The Moa Belt, an instrumental Hawkes Bay trio, who evoke the sounds of 60's and 70's psychedelic/progressive rock with smatterings of blues, funk and jazz. With a handful of shows under their belt including two support slots for local heroes Jakob, they are steadily making a name for themselves in the Hawkes Bay music scene.
Opening the evening will be Hawkes Bay singer songwriter EJ Thorpe Music. Armed with a loop pedal, slide and guitar, EJ Thorpe’s music offers a melancholic, personal reflection on life delivered in her own unique style – a primal fusion of folk, blues and sludge.
