Mount Maunganui local ruffians AntWars will be playing Nivara Lounge on February 26th along side fellow BOP punks Liberated Squid and local Hamilton up and comers SugarLeaf and BattleCat.
AntWars , formed in 2013 , have a distinct sound combining Blues rock, desert rock and punk into a well executed live show full of energy and groove. After releasing their debut Smithereens EP last year, they've played extensively and opened for some great NZ acts such as Mothra, Shihad, Datsuns and Kairo Knife Fight. A great live band that can go from producing a wall of in your face sound, to a sudden drop in tempo in the blink of an eye. They packed out Biddy Mulligans last time they were in town and love the Hamilton crowd!
Liberated Squid play the kind of Punk your grandparents used to listen to.. honest, unadulterated three chord punk (with the odd fourth thrown in ) They're solid musicians and will be hot off the stage from their annual appearance at the Woodcock Festival in Tauranga.
Local Hamiltonians Sugarleaf aim to bring a slightly politically iced stoner rock aspect delivering punchy riffs and enough noise to melt your face off.. (throwing of dildos will not be permitted as this event..)
Lastly but by no means least BattleCat featuring members of The New Kill and Snake Oil Pedlars are a self confessed smelly punk band from deep within the Tron, always a joy to watch , they bring their own style of punk, alternative and hardcore to the stage and get everyone up for the action. if you put The Stooges, Bad Brains, Black Flag, and NOFX into a blender you would end up with a BattleCat smoothy .
The Show starts at 8.30 and there will be merchandise and a $5 cover charge on the door.. but for these four bands.. thats a steal in itself!
