Gig Information

Bluesman Jerron 'Blind Boy' Paxton is winging his way to New Zealand in March for a four-date tour, including the intimate Black Barn 'Market Round' on Sunday 13 March.

The 27-year-old multi-instrumentalist, blues musician and vocalist, plays banjo, piano and violin and his musical influences are mainly rooted in the early blues from the 1920′s and 30′s. Paxton hails from Los Angeles and lost most of his eyesight by the age of 16, has carved out a firm reputation for his ability to assimilate the rawness of blues music that emerged from America during the 20s and 30s. Paxton is heading to New Zealand for his first ever shows on these shores as he prepares to play at the Byron Bay Bluesfest.

This young musician who also plays guitar, fiddle, harmonica, Cajun accordion, and the bones (percussion) has an eerie ability to transform traditional jazz, blues, folk, and country into the here and now, and make it real. In addition, he mesmerizes audiences with his humour and storytelling.

Paxton is a world class talent and a uniquely colourful character who has been on the cover of Living Blues Magazine and the Village Voice, and has been interviewed on FOX News. With a strong interest in blues and jazz music from World War II, Paxton's sound is influenced by the likes of Fats Waller and Blind Lemon Jefferson.

According to Will Friedwald in the Wall Street Journal, Paxton is virtually the only music-maker of his generation — playing guitar, banjo, piano and violin, among other implements — to fully assimilate the blues idiom of the 1920s and ‘30s”.

Other NZ dates on the tour:

Thursday 10 March - The Tuning Fork @ Vector Arena
Friday 11 March - Lyttelton @ The Naval Point Club
Saturday 12 March - Wellington @ Bodega
