The Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival is a celebration of our nation's finest food, brews and music. There’ll be a monumental selection to tantalise the tastebuds, the musical stylings of kiwi icons Fly My Pretties and some good old southern hospitality. We promise...we’ve got something for everyone! We are excited to announce that Hana Fahy, Kylie Price, Matt Langley & Julian Temple (solo) will be playing in the lead up to Fly My Pretties on stage this year.
Fly My Pretties
Fly My Pretties are proud to announce that for the first time in over three years, the band will return to Dunedin to headline the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival in November! The performance will showcase FMP’s new album String Theory, which will be released in the lead up to the Festival.
String Theory will be recorded during a run of sold-out shows in August in Auckland and Wellington, and will be the first new album from Fly My Pretties since The Homeland Recordings. Their appearance at the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival will not only celebrate this new album’s release, but will also showcase tracks from it, along with a collection of FMP favourites.
Hana Fahy
Hana Fahy is a songwriter who has a weakness for 3 minute pop songs, auxiliary percussion and single malts, combining all three for best results. Her musical offerings run the gamut from melancholic blues ballads to playful, soul-infused pop ditties that will stick in your brain long after the music has ended. Syncopated keyboard rhythms underpin warm, smoky vocals, while catchy choruses are peppered with the lyrical wit that permeates Fahy’s songs.
Hailing from Dunedin, Fahy has performed extensively throughout New Zealand both as a solo artist and with her band, honing her craft in venues large and small throughout the country.
Her debut E.P. World Still Turns is available on iTunes and at hanafahy.bandcamp.com
Kylie Price
Kylie Price set out to stay true to the intimacy and minimal feel of country music, yet she is not a purist. Her eclectic personality shines through her songs, finding an outlet in the form of influences and expressions as diverse as alt country, blues and folk. Her diverse and out-of-the-box approach makes for instinctive, passionate and organic live performances.
Having won many awards for her songwriting and live performances, Kylie released her debut EP Wanderer // Wonderer with the support of a stellar production team. The release features 5 original songs & a hauntingly beautiful cover of Leonard Cohan’s Hallelujah that offer a genuine insight on Kylie’s lyrical and musical world.
Matt Langley
Matt Langley is a Dunedin based, award winning singer/songsmith. He has drawn comparisons to Wilco, Elliot Smith, Jeff Buckley, Grant Lee Phillips and Chris Isaak, among others. Matt’s music clearly draws from folk and country traditions, but there are elements from a wide range of influences. His songs are poetic, insightful observations and meditations on his life on the Otago peninsula, Aotearoa, N.Z
We’re chuffed to have him back at the festival again in 2016! Check out his lovely albums on bandcamp.
Julian Temple (solo)
Originally from California, Julian Temple is a talented singer/songwriter based in Dunedin. Both solo and with his band, he has established himself as a musical force to be reckoned with, through extensive touring across New Zealand, Australia and the USA. Julian’s songs and live performances have been described as ‘like the loudest blues band in the world whispering’, and this analogy rings true whether Julian is playing solo or with his band.
Julian will be performing solo at the Dunedin Craft Beer & Food Festival, make sure you catch his set!
