95bFM presents “The 3rd Annual Dirtbag Music Awards For Bands That Aren’t Shit” Friday December 9 at Whammy Bar.
Born out of a drunken 4am conversation cursing the avalanche of shit that fills commercial music award shows, the Dirtbag Awards celebrate the hard-working, under-praised musicians, artists, bar staff, promoters and sound engineers that make up our local underground music scene.
This year, we have expanded to a total of 22 award categories, including “non-Dirtbag” genres: Hip-hop/Beats, Metal and Folk Pop & Experimental (NO JAZZ). In an attempt to be more inclusive, we have also included categories to represent our wider bnet radio whānau and the music being made in their backyards.
Best Live Act nominees will play live during the evening, as well as a very special international band that will be announced closer to the date.
Most importantly, these awards are about our listeners acknowledging music and artists they actually give a shit about!
