Gig Information

Dear NZ,

Dave Dondero is coming to town and we're kicking off our tour with our righteous friends at 13th Floor Studios in Auckland. Dave’s been hailed by the tastemakers at NPR in the United States (the equivalent of RNZ in NZ) as one of the best songwriters living today. They literally said he was in the top ten. While that sounds hyperbolic, it’s a sentiment shared in countless album reviews in magazines like No Depression and Paste. He’s decidedly done things his way for over 20 years, living the life of the hardcore troubadour, playing over 200 dates a year, crisscrossing the world on a never-ending tour. Eschewing the comfort of bigger label help for the luxury of artistic vision and with a critically-lauded ten studio albums to his name, Dave’s “Outbound Sound” and songwriting has much in common with the worldview of Woody Guthrie and the lyricism of Townes Van Zandt—if they'd been raised on punk rock. Dave has certainly pounded the pavement of America as much as either of those giants while seeking the soul of America. He’s recently cut an EP with Against Me’s Laura Jane Grace, released 2017’s “Inside the Cats Eye” LP, and is coming directly off a tour with Dave Bazan of Pedro the Lion.

“Few songwriters have experienced and expressed the sinking depths and uplifting optimism of humanity like David Dondero, and his ability to shine a light on the human condition (his own included) is inspiring” - TeamLove Records

This will be Dave’s first visit to New Zealand, on his way to play the Belingen Festival on the Gold Coast of OZ., and while his songwriting genius is why you might come, he's also just a hell of a sweet fella. So, Come meet your new favourite songwriter for the first time. It'll be like that time when Townes came through in the 80's. You wouldn't want to miss that, would ya?

Touring with:

The Dauphin of Mississippi

The Dauphin, or his album, Prodigal Songs for the End of Days, is currently a finalist for three Wyoming Country Music Awards for: Best Album, Americana/Roots Group of the year, and Songwriter of the year. Prodigal Songs also landed on Wyoming Public Radio’s “Top-Ten Wyoming Albums of 2017” list. Originally from Mississippi, the Dauphin has recently moved to Wellington to live. He’s shared stages with The Ghost Of Paul Revere, Lee Bains III and the Glory Fires, Willis Alan Ramsey, and Dave Dondero. He flies back to Nashville the week after this tour to record a follow-up album “Songs for the Recently Divorced” for the Graymatter label at Ivy Hall Studio, and will be cutting some sides with Wellington-based producer Gerry Paul this winter in NZ.

Here’s what people say about him:
“Dauphin, Jason Burge. Great, Great songwriter. Quite an ability to draw listeners in with narratives in the songwriting. Beautiful, absolutely Gorgeous.” - Grady Kirkpatrick, Program Director, Wyoming Public Radio

Jason Burge's singing in a small space astounded me. His being is an instrument. - Cindy Bloomquist, venue owner of The Yard in Saratoga

He’s looking forward to meeting you.
