Rose James is a Dunedin based sonic artist and DJ. She will present a performed variation of her current work Through a Cloud of Smoke and Dust which was exhibited at the Centre of Contemporary Art in Christchurch 2018.
In 2014 James was asked to be part of a team who recorded the demolition and implosion of the Christchurch police building that was damaged in the 2011 earthquake. The sounds in this work were taken from the building in moments of quiet, when all the heavy equipment stopped and the structural sounds of the building and the environment took over. A sonic snapshot of the dismantling of a building that was at the foundation of the community.
