The Dragonfly Rustlers first came together as a duo in 2008 and quickly became regulars on the Dunedin open mic and cafe scene with their folk/americana originals and covers. After the tyranny of distance forced a ten-year hiatus, they reunited in 2018 with a new maturity to their sound.
The pair takes inspiration from an eclectic mix of influences such as The Be Good Tanyas, Jollie Holland, Ani DiFranco, The Decemberists, Ella Fitzgerald and PJ Harvey as well as classical guitar and traditional folk music. Their laidback sound incorporates folk harmonies with classical guitar licks as their music explores the trials and tribulations of love and life today and through the ages.
Since reuniting, The Dragonfly Rustlers have become a common sound at Dog With Two Tails Cafe as well as making appearances at Toitu and Waimate Folk Festival. In September 2019, the pair recorded their first EP 'Slow Boats'.
