Gig Information

As the seminal VAGUE RECS. Club Night, we aim for this evening to showcase some of the most finely tuned, intelligent, and subheavy Beats being made across the world today.

2020 marks roughly 30 years since breakbeat music entered the scene. We hope to celebrate by giving some of our favourite local DJs the opportunity to select Dub, DnB, and Leftfield tunes all night for your aural pleasure. If it's O-week and you've never been to a rave before, come experience something new.

The music for the evening will be Psychedelic, Minimal,
and above all else... VAGUE.
/ 8pm-3am // $10 before 11 and $15 after /

HEADLAND (System / Innamind Recs / Subtle Sound):

Hailing from Christchurch, Headland is a producer with vinyl releases on overseas imprints such as Innamind Recordings, Unity Through Sound and Well Rounded Records. His fresh perspective on writing/playing dubstep has taken the world by storm, playing shows throughout Europe and the UK including the Deep, Dark & Dangerous boat party at Outlook Festival.

Headland has and will continue to push the boundaries of music, with basslines you feel in your bones and arrangements that make you question your sanity; breaking the mold is a hallmark of his sound, firmly setting him in a league of his own.

PAIGE JULIA (Samsara Beats / Forest Biz UK / Totally Roasted):

If you've been apart of Wellington Bass culture for any length of time over the last few years, it's more than likely you'll have heard the name... or maybe even the music of Paige Julia.

Although she's been active in the scene for a while, 2019 has seen original music, remixes and collaborative projects on labels based in NZ, the US and UK, plus many opportunities to share that music around New Zealand. The summer festival scene has been important in developing and embracing her music, as she draws on inspiration from breakbeat, techno, drum & bass and dub soundscapes to create her compositions.

As a selecta before starting to delve into music production, you can be assured of fresh cuts mixed with pristine taste and a set looking to the past and future of bass-driven music when dancing with Paige on the rig. Expect original music tied together with the latest and weirdest sounds from across the world. Expect moody, emotive late night music full of her own sound with the same passion for crafting a message over her sets. Her presence on stage is energetic and her music is authentic, alien and loud. Not one to miss.

OTTIC (Vague):

Hello yes I'm Aidan, I'm one of humans who started the imprint and have also been making/mixing this lovely lovely music for the past 2-3 years more seriously (if you can call it that).
I write my own music under 'Ottic' generally along the lines of DnB, Leftfield, and 140s so keep an ear out for some otherworldly music from 2am onwards. Expect Twisted and Psychedelic colours spread over beats.

HERMEUS (Vertigo / Vague):

Hermeus is a Wellington based DJ with a strong focus on psychedelic dance music.
It's important that the music we play is danceable but gets the crowd out of their comfort zone. You won't often know the tunes I play but they feel good and that's what matters.
The future of dance music is clean, dark, minimal and psychedelic. Rhythm is more complex than we think, the beauty is in the negative space. Destin promotes Vertigo in Wellington and contributes to many local events as a DJ, VJ and Vibesmith Generalist. Catch Hermeus bridging the gap between Dubs and 4/4 Post-Techno rhythms... can you keep up?

DRAIN GANG (Literal Gang):

“Worship Satan” - Locust.
Shit the Bed - BadTrip
Drain Gang is the b2b moniker of 140 selecta Locust and BadTrip, hailing all the way from Nelson.
Expect clean mixing and a rare selection of Dubstep and Post-Dub to send you spiralling into the darkest of places.
From 10-11pm you'll hear sub layers you can sink your teeth into atop crisp dubby drum grooves, another one to catch before the ticket pricing goes up to $15 from 11. Meditate on Bass-weight.

ANOMALY (Vague / Bakery):

“Deep, wet, glitchy dubs infused with elements of DnB, Trap and Psytrance. Anomaly will provide sounds you can touch and bass you can feel.”

Although Travis has only just finished his first set as part of the outdoor festival circuit during Twisted Frequency, he mixes insanely high quality Psychedelic Dub music with finesse and has a tasty selection to match. Sounds to take ya mind atravelling. Don't just take our word for it...

BIONICAL (Vague):

Another relative newcomer to the outdoor festival circuit, Calum plays primarily Leftfield Bass, PsyDub, and Breakbeat.
As a longtime member of Wellington based Ambient duo 'Grains', Calum has an intimate understanding of sound design that translates across indelibly well to beat-driven music. As the first act up, come down and support BioniCal while he solidifies the vibe to come for the night.
