Gig Information

Anthonie Tonnon is celebrating the release of the song, ‘Mataura Paper Mill,’ with a special one-off show at the Opera House in Whanganui. The show is open to attend in-person, or virtually via online broadcast, which can be watched live or later.

The Royal Opera House is one of the great venues in Aotearoa. It has survived three fires, and is the only working theatre of its era and materials in the Southern Hemisphere.

Tonnon will be joined by Wellington writer and former Whanganui resident Rose Lu, who released her debut collection of essays All Who Live On Islands in 2019, and local podcaster/musician Al Reid, of mildly morbid, motivational morning podcast, You’re Gonna’ Die In Bed.

In-person attendees will be able to enjoy a bar curated by Whanganui free house, Porridge Watson, and dinner options from local food cart, Condimento Latino.

‘Mataura Paper Mill’ is based on the true and ongoing story of the historic industrial building above the Mataura Falls. In the show, Tonnon will perform ‘Mataura Paper Mill’ and other songs, as well as music from his soundtrack for The Service - RNZ’s new podcast about The Cold War and spying in New Zealand.

Tonnon is also launching new ‘Mataura Paper Mill’ socks, designed by Karlya Smith, and made in New Zealand from a slim merino wool blend. They come with the single and a new b-side: ‘Water Underground (Live).’ The new song is out on July 30 via bandcamp and www.anthonietonnon.com

Tickets to attend Live at The Opera House, both in person and virtually, are available from anthonietonnon.com. In person tickets are available from The Opera House ticket window.
