Umar Zakaria’s latest project asks the question, “where do we come from and why does it matter?” Named after the Malay word for “sign”, Tanda is an ensemble that strives to signify how our experiences in Aotearoa remain connected to the rest of the world and its many intertwining cultures and histories. For their WJC set Tanda will be performing a new extended version of Umar Zakaria’s award-winning “Suite Melayu” as well as innovative new arrangements on classic Malay folk tunes, inspired by the likes of Tigran Hamasyan and Miguel Zenon.
Doors open at 6.30 pm, the concert starts at 7.30 pm
