MAX TAMAHORI BIO
Max Tamahori is a Japanese-New Zealander raised in Los Angeles and now based in Chicago. The Windy City got him hooked on records, and it has consistently fueled a passion to dig deeper into the many facets of American dance music culture.
On weekends you can find him behind the counter at Chicago’s iconic Gramaphone Records or on the dancefloor supporting local deejays. He’s also a co-founder and resident of Humboldt Arboreal Society — a summertime bi-weekly open-air that took root in 2017 and has since hosted many of the city’s finest selectors, including Garrett David, Michael Serafini, Sassmouth, Rahaan, and Shaun J. Wright.
From the park to the airwaves to the club, Tamahori has graced the decks of Smartbar, Danny’s Tavern, NTS Radio, and some of Brooklyn’s dopest intimate venues. Having played alongside Chicago legends Mark Grusane, Darryn Jones, and Jamie 3:26, it’s safe to assume that Tamahori’s sound falls on the groovier end of the spectrum. Expect heavy doses of deep house weapons, incendiary disco cuts, tracky dubs, cheeky edits, Balearic heaters and more.
