Gig Information

Paekākāriki supergroup Tū Tilley are set to “rock the rafters” at an upcoming gig at St Peters Village Hall. Also performing are Porirua band Brand New Second Hand, and Phill Simmonds will be illuminating the stage with his vibrant projections.

Himiona Grace, who writes the band’s songs, says their music always gets the crowd moving. “It’s been a while since we rattled the rafters in St Peters Hall. We love St Peters Hall so much we even wrote a song about it!”

Featuring up to eight remarkable performers all from Paekākāriki, Tū Tilley have been playing together for over six years and have become known for their vibrant live shows.

“We all have such different influences but we all have a love of music in common, and our main driver is enjoying what we do, and sharing that joy with our audience,” says keyboard player Julia Truscott.

The musicians merge their differing musical styles including classical, reggae, funk and
jazz into an upbeat groove which always gets the audience dancing. Tanira
Kingi leads from the front and effortlessly fills the room with her dynamic vocal range and
unique rich sound.

As well as a number of sell-out shows in Paekākāriki, Tū Tilley has performed at Tuatara Brewery, at the Waterfront Bar, the Kāpiti Food Fair, Hongoeka Bay festival and headlined the epic 2020 Waitangi Day in Paekākāriki .

Also performing are Brand New Second Hand.

Coming from Hongoeka Bay, under the shelter of Ngāti Toa Rangatira Brand New Second Hand will be kicking off the evening. A collective playing old reggae songs mixed with vibrant new songs, they bring a message of injustice, world issues, love, bitterness and fire.

Grace says that Tū Tilley and Brand New Second are like sibling bands. “With great original music mixed in with upbeat classics you’ll definitely be dancing the night away.”

All proceeds to the Whangārei Mayoral relief fund through the “adopt a council” initiative, and will be distributed to help with Cyclone Gabrielle recovery. The adopt a council programme is being run through Local Government New Zealand and connects an unaffected council with one which has been affected, to allow targeted relief.

Tū Tilley and Brand New Second Hand, St Peter’s Village Hall, Friday 24 March 7pm. Tickets $20 available on Under the Radar and Paekākāriki Fruit Supply.
