LOCALS 2AM ORCHESTRA JUST ADDED TO THE LINEUP!

The Weather Machine’s live persona is one part soulful longing, two parts theatrical glam, and a heaping spoonful of retro-nostalgia indie-rock abandon.

Hailing from the rainy green river city of Portland, Oregon, project lead Slater Smith has been troubadouring under the band-moniker The Weather Machine for the better part of a decade, churning out record after heartfelt record tracked in basements and back rooms with his closest friends, steeping themselves in the DIY folk-rocker lifestyle and love for musical collaboration that Smith has never quite been able to get enough of. After some very high highs over those early years, touring internationally and opening for acts like The Lumineers and Cold War Kids, the band was finally able to scrape together enough cash to get out of their basements and into their dream studio. Recorded with Pacific Northwest producer-hero Tucker Martine, the result was the project’s latest record “Applecore”, a dreamy psych-pop reflection on hope, redemption, and anxiety in modern day America.

And with the record, it was also time for Smith to move on to new challenges - specifically in Aotearoa. In 2021 he relocated The Weather Machine to Te Whanganui-a-Tara, following his heart and his lovely partner to her (and now his new) home country. During the ensuing years a new chapter of The Weather Machine began to take shape with Wellington musos. Now with bandmates and recording collaborators spanning two continents, The Weather Machine embarks on its first Aotearoa New Zealand tour with new songs of a distinctly Wellington flavour. The Aotearoa Chapter of The Weather Machine consists of Smith, Ana Henderson (violin), David McGurk (Drums), Josh Buckler (sax/clarinet), Matt Fitzpatrick (guitar), and Wynton Newman (bass).

A year on from the Applecore debut, the project performs for the first time ever in Tāmaki Makaurau / Auckland.

They will be joined by Haiku Redo, with Craig Horne (Drums), Barbara Morgan (Bass), Kevin Moody(Guitar) and Diane Swan(Guitar). These guys have been literally marinating in music for decades. With songs about hooking up, breaking up and f**king up, Haiku Redo deliver a heart on your sleeve set with melt in your mouth alt-pop tunes.
