Gig Information

It celebrates 30 years of the Saxcess Saxophone 4tet and it’s 30 year collaboration with many NZ composers and guest artists. Our chief guest artist for this occasion is Jeremy Fitzsimons. We also have on board Nick Tipping, bass, Ross Harris, accordion and Anna Gawn, soprano.

The programme is mainly new works by our New Zealand composers and features a world premier by Gareth Farr, Claire Cowan’s brilliant arrangement of a suite from her Hansel and Gretel ballet music, and a New Zealand premiere by John Pthasas [Rom in Space for sax 4tet and percussion]. All these works feature the virtuoso drumming of Jeremy Fitzsimons. Other world premiers are by Karlo Margetic, Ross Harris, Nathaniel Ottley, John Rimmer and Cameron Monteith

The main flavour of the programme is a trip around the world with a rich smorgasbord of Tango, Klezmer, Swing, Latin, and cutting edge Contemporary, which culminates with a journey to the cosmos with Pthases’s Rom in Space!

There will also be a finale with a 14 piece Saxophone Orchestra and percussion.
