Sangeet Mishra comes from eight generations of sarangi masters and is considered a prodigy of this mesmerising Indian instrument. He hails from the renowned Sarangi Gharana (school) of Banaras, India.
Throughout his journey as a musician, Sangeet has laboured to revive the soul-touching quality of the sarangi by acquiring both the tantakri and gayaki ancient styles of playing from his gurus. Rooted firmly in the ancient traditions and techniques of shastriya sangeet (classical music), Sangeet has also worked to add a distinctive individuality to his playing.
Based in the city of Mumbai, Sangeet maintains a busy schedule as a professional musician, sought out for solo recitals, collaborative music as well as accompaniment. He has been invited to perform in the USA, UK, Japan, Brazil, Australia, Russia, South Korea, Poland, Germany, Austria, Singapore, Dubai, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, Thailand, Malaysia, amongst other countries. Sangeet has performed multiple times in Aotearoa New Zealand and we are honoured to have him perform in Ōtautahi Christchurch for the very first time.
