Gig Information

WD40. Not a UB40 covers band, but a significant birthday celebration featuring four of Pōneke's best bands for only $10.

Opening the night are The Winebox Inquiry, the solo project of William Daymond. Having released a self-titled mini album in 2014 and the full length album Sets Sail! in 2016 on the Melted Ice Cream label, 2023 saw him release his third album, Liquid Air, a stripped back acoustic affair. This will be the first performance under the moniker and his first solo show in 12 years:

Next up are Style on Trial, the newest band of the evening. Formed in July 2023, they are a Pōneke supergroup of sorts, featuring members of Volcana, Kittentank, WintyrQueen and Terror of the Deep. They are yet to record in a studio environment but be sure to catch their Beatles and Smiths melodic sensibilities blended with sinister Velvet Underground and Gun Club undertones:

Horn were formed by guitarist and songwriter Abi Macilquham in Christchurch but are now a Wellington based band with Rohan Hill on drums, Rebekah Leah on bass and new recruit William Daymond on 2nd guitar. Their debut album was released on Melted Ice Cream in June 2023:

Rounding off the night with their first show in 15 months, Pōneke institution Terror of the Deep needs no introduction. Described by Flavourwire as one of the 10 Great New Zealand Bands You Should Know, signed to New York label Selection Records and played by John Peel's son on his BBC radio show, come and see for yourself what the fuss is all about:

WD40. Not a UB40 covers band, but William Daymond's 40th.

You'd have to concede this about Wellington's William Daymond: he moves on and can't be put in any convenient box - Graham Reid, Elsewhere.co.nz
