MUSIC FIRST invites
Deep House legend
RON TRENT [CHICAGO]
For the very first time in Aotearoa
w/ MF residents Booker and Harmony
FRIDAY 8th MARCH
@ THE HOLLYWOOD AVONDALE
DOORS 7:30 PM
Music First is about putting the music first - and it gives us an incredible amount of pleasure to invite the one and only RON TRENT to Aotearoa for the very first time for a very special show at the Hollywood Avondale this March. We could not have asked for a more perfect guest to set the tone - A perennial presence in the dance world since the early 90's, Ron Trent is considered to be one of the architects of the Chicago house music scene. He began the journey through studying and collecting records from a young age, taking cues from his father who ran a record pool in the late 70's. This upbringing provided the strong foundations which not only enabled him to become a respected DJ in his early teens, but also gave him the confidence to embark on his own productions in the mid 80s, culminating in his first release, the highly recognized and internationally acclaimed classic \Altered States\, in 1990.
His seminal record label Prescription Records - which he co-founded with Chez Damier- is widely regarded as one of the most influential dance record labels of all time.
Outside of running record labels Prescription, Future Vision, Electric Blue Recordings and Music And Power, the last few years has seen Ron Trent making his presence known internationally: from regularly gracing the decks at Berghain in Berlin and making appearances at ADE in Amsterdam, to playing for music connoisseurs in both London (Need2Soul, Boiler Room, Brilliant Corners) and Japan (Air, Circus)....just to name a few.
Released in 2022 - his new project WARM showcases the diverse and accomplished sound that Ron has become so well known and beloved for, featuring a host of collaborations from luminaries Ivan Conti (Azymuth) & Jean-Luc Ponty alongside Khurangbin. His productions are as timeless now as those early records that really laid the foundations of a sound that would become known as “Deep House”.
Join us on Friday the March the 8th for an historical occasion as we invite Ron Trent to Tāmaki Makaurau for his first and only New Zealand show. It will be as legendary as the man himself.
