Gig Information

Tēnā koutou, you are invited to the after party of Kowhitikaru: Māori and Tauiwi of Colour's experiences in the art and music scenes in Aotearoa

Kowhitikaru: Māori and Tauiwi of Colour's experiences in the art and music scenes in Aotearoa is a collection of interviews, images, artworks, poetry, with BIPOC artists and musicians living in Ōtepoti, Tāmaki Makarau, Kirikiriroa, Aorangi, and Ōtaki.
Featuring music from:

CUCK
CUCK are a cynicism-pill grindcore three piece from Ōtepoti. Forged by means of a pinky promise in 2019, they have been playing DIY shows across Aotearoa since 2020. In 2022, CUCK’s musical output culminated in the release of their eponymously titled cassette tape containing 14 songs and clocking in at just over 12 minutes.
Their music draws grindcore, punk and screamo influences, presented at breakneck speed. And in a live setting the band combines the ferocious intensity of the music with a performance to match, creating a breathless sonic assault.
Cuck are Lana (Ngāpuhi, Te Rarawa), Gabe, and Jörg
CUCK’s music described by others:
“Ideal for running wild in the streets” (Cain Lindegreen, ODT)
“A toxic, venomous stab to the ears” (Dave Norman, Open Mind Saturated Brain)

E-Kare
E-Kare (founded in 2016, Te Whanganui-a-Tara) is music x art duo Jos van Beek (Fauxhound, T.A.B) and Piupiu Maya Turei (PMT). They blast hardcore happy chiptune beats, wax lyrical about impending doom, cake and eating people.

HALF/TIME
HALF/TIME is a Māori centred post-punk band from Kirkikiriroa and Tāmaki Makaurau featuring Wairehu Grant on guitar and vocals, Cee on bass and vocals, and Ciara Bernstein on drums. Together they perform emotionally charged songs addressing decolonisation, structural racism and cultural resilience. Their music intertwines lyrics in English and te reo Māori with heavy riffs and driving rhythms.
In November of 2023 Half/Time released their EP ‘Black Union Jack’ which was recorded in July of the same year during Matariki. The EP is available on most streaming services including Bandcamp and Spotify.

HŌHĀ
HŌHĀ is Liam Clune (Crime Hospital, Night Lunch) playing guitar and Madison Kelly (Riot Gull) playing drums. HŌHĀ likes to get grumpy and get stuck in.
