Join Deva Mahal and guests at Meow on Friday May 24th for her first headline show in Aotearoa since last June’s sold out Future Classic: Vol 1 tour.
Tickets available from Moshtix link below
Blessed traveler Deva Mahal returns to the Meow stage bringing us the rare opportunity to experience the true power of her voice, in a scaled back, intimate performance featuring several special guest appearances. Join Deva as she shares songs from every era of her journey, including “Travel With Me” from her latest release, a finalist of last year’s APRA Silver Scroll award.
Deva has spent the last few years in Aotearoa to delve deeper into her craft as a composer and producer. Mahal’s most recent project (Future Classic: Vol 1 - Classic), co-produced with Ōtautahi born Chris Wethey, passionately channeled the heartbreak of the current racial violence and political injustices of her country of origin, the eternal endeavour to search for true love and self-worth, and her emboldened sense of the sensuality, softness and power as a Black woman.
Mahal has been working on her next EP, with plans to continue her travels and head to the UK to begin recording highly anticipated Future Classic: Vol. 2. All proceeds from this special fundraiser show will go towards getting Deva and Chris over to the UK so they can bring the next stage in their vision to life.
Beginning from her upbringing in Kaua’i, Hawaii to discovering her voice in Aotearoa, has she solidified her vision as an artist performing alongside Fat Freddy’s Drop, Hollie Smith, Anika Moa and Ladi6 to name a few. Internationally Mahal has shared stages with legends such as Etta James, Björk, Ceelo Green and The Roots, as well as appearing on live TV shows such as Quotidien, Later... with Jools Holland, and recently an extra special guest judge on RuPaul’s Drag Race.
