Bringing together eight of the finest choirs at the 2024 World Choir Games, these two concerts at Auckland Town Hall convey the wide variety of choir types and music styles that will be on glorious show throughout the Games.
Concert Two on Wednesday 17 July showcases two mixed-voice choirs that are quite different in nature: the passionate Swiss Consonus vokalensemble and the much-awarded University of Oregon Chamber Choir from the USA. Fine local choir Paradisum from Epsom Girls’ Grammar School continues the attractive line-up, with an additional top international choir ByeZoo Choir from Beijing.
Consonus vokalensemble is a young choir from Switzerland, conducted by Mauro Ursprung, with an unbridled passion for singing – together, harmoniously and at the highest level! They love to introduce their audiences to new worlds and create unforgettable experiences.
Paradisum is the premier choir at Auckland’s Epsom Girls Grammar School and a regular Gold awardee at New Zealand’s nationwide choral competition The Big Sing. Conducted by Virginia Le Cren, Paradisum explores diverse repertoire in different languages, including music by New Zealand composers.
University of Oregon Chamber Choir is a mixed choral ensemble directed by Dr. Sharon J Paul specialising in a cappella repertoire from the 16th century to today. The choir has garnered recent attention by high placings at four international choral competitions, most recently winning first prize at the Grand Prix of Nations in Gothenburg in 2019.
ByeZoo Choir from Beijing was established in just 2019, but has already won many competition awards. It’s name implies breaking free from constraints, being at ease and returning to nature
