The Ministry of Folk puts on intimate live performances in a beautiful old hall halfway down Dominion Road. The venue has cabaret-style seating and you can BYO drinks and snacks.
The Ministry of Folk is excited to welcome SHINDIG. Inspired by the unvarnished music of artists such as Dock Boggs, Roscoe Holcomb and Leadbelly, Shindig present stonking new takes on old-time folk, blues and country tunes from the American pantheon.
The trio consists of the driving clawhammer banjo and vocals of DAVID WARD, (Indian ink Theatre Co, Ruckus) the vital fiddle and mandolin of DAVE KHAN (Marlon Williams, Reb Fountain) and the rock solid foundation of EAMON EDMUNDSON-WELLS (Louisa Nicklin) on Double Bass. Shindig perform regularly around Auckland, and were a headline act at KIWIGRASS 2021 and AUCKLAND FOLK FESTIVAL 2024
Equally exciting will be the chance to hear THE FLORAL CLOCKS. They are musicians Gabriel White, Rebecca Hendl-Smith and Robert Sly and lyricist Richard von Sturmer.
The group has produced several live music theatre shows including Strange Ancestors (2022) and Here Come the Songs (2024) and three albums [‘Desert Fire’ (2015), ‘A Beautiful Shade of Blue’ (2017), ‘Gas Giant’ (2019)] of startling originality with songs exploring a variety of landscapes from the atmospheric to the darkly comic. Not to be missed.
As usual, your hosts HOOP will start things off with new songs and selections from their extensive poppy folk back-catalogue.
It's going to be an awesome evening.
Doors at 7.00pm and performances will start at around 7.30pm.
BYO drinks and snacks.
