Leigham and Hyram come from different times, different places and different musical backgrounds but have found themselves on the same path and influencing each other's songwriting and musical direction. In this show they will perform separately and together playing their original songs, some newly minted, and covers that have influenced both of their musical personas. It is an unlikely pairing that works on many levels.
Leigham is Dunedin based and quietly making a name for themselves as a compelling singer/songwriter. Classically trained in cello from an early age, which still gets played on occasion, one day young Leigham picked up a guitar and discovered how to sing and hasn't looked back since! Drawing on their dreams and adventures in life along with influences such as Leonard Cohen, Nick Drake and others, they craft songs from a deeply personal point of view that resonates with many. Their lyrics are complimented by a gentle yet powerful vocal quality and unique guitar style.
Hyram plays Americana music tinged with dust of the high deserts and flavoured by the borderlands of California where he grew up. The songs he performs range from rocking danceable tunes to heartfelt ballads and everything betwixt and between with soulful vocals and simple but deft guitar work. Hyram has been active in the NZ music scene for over 40 years in various projects. He is currently working with Leigham as well as fronting his band Dr T & The Dangerous Women and as a member of Latin/Funk band Ed and The Shadow Boys.
Leigham & Hyram will be joined in Christchurch by special guest, Sophia Bidwell!
