Fifty years ago in a cowshed in Kirikiriroa a radio station was born. That station grew up to be Contact FM - Hamilton's most professional amateur radio station - a bastion for art, music and entertainment in the Waikato, and proud founding member of the Student Radio Network.
The station may be gone, but the party continues! Join us on Saturday 3rd of May at the Meteor Theatre in Hamilton for a one-night celebration of the music, musicians and music lovers of Hamilton from the 1970s-2010s. The party boasts a line-up of bands full of people who've been influential in the Hamilton music scene from the 1980s through to present day - Watershed, MSU, Broadcast State, DEAN, Commodore65, Vicki No Mates, as well as live 'radio' shows by former Contact announcers such as DJ Arc - and will be MC'd by Jesse Mullligan.
The party will be accompanied by a 3 day exhibition at The Meteor of old cool stuff related to Contact and the Kirikiriroa music scene, dredged out of sheds and attics across the motu. Come reminisce about the glory days and celebrate the station we knew and loved, or just come to experience five hours of non-stop awesome original NZ music live!
Hugs and thanks to our sponsors: FreeFM, Rocket Coffee, Marximus Trust, Scott Newth from BLKHUS, and Kevin Glover Barrister.
