Nelson Jazz Club Big Band present “Glenn v Duke” – A battle of the Big Band Era
Glenn Miller and His Orchestra was an American swing dance band that was formed by Glenn Miller in 1938. Arranged around a clarinet and tenor saxophone playing melody, and three other saxophones playing harmony, the band became the most popular and commercially successful dance orchestra of the swing era and one of the greatest singles charting acts of the 20th century.
Over a period of 13 years, The Glenn Miller and His Orchestra had multiple Top Ten hits and reached #1 in the charts 79 times.
Of these Top Hits, NJCBB’s performance will include Little Brown Jug, Tuxedo Junction, A String of Pearls and Pennsylvania 6-5000
Duke” Ellington was an American jazz pianist, composer, and leader of his eponymous jazz orchestra from 1924 through the rest of his life. Ellington wrote or collaborated on more than one thousand compositions; his extensive body of work is the largest recorded personal jazz legacy, and many of his pieces have become standards.
