Bilders not only play tunes from the 2024 LP Dustbin of Empathy but also from their new album, which launches with this tour. The band is the strongest ever, with multi-instrumentalists Alex McManus and Matt Swanson (mostly bass) making the trip from the USA. Magnet Magazine described Direen standing with Chris Knox in the vanguard of the country’s non-conformist rock pantheon; he’s another guy who has led by example, and hung in there through some cruel ups and downs. He’s spent most of this century in Europe, but occasionally makes the track back home to play songs, publish books, and take stock of the place that begat him. The film A Memory of Others was made on one such trip. For a free look at the film go to: http://william.direen.free.fr/media/Magazine%20Bilders%20from%20Memory.mp4.
Graham Reid describes the album Dustbin of Empathy as gently beautiful, left-field pop songs and embedded cultural memories with a melancholy and darkness, scraping guitars and a real sense of menacing. Dustbin of Empathy is another excellent, entrancing and slightly chilling Direen album.
Don't miss these gigs. It's a rare opportunity to catch Bilders with ex-Lambchop members Swan and McManus. (Some guests are anticipated)
