After the extraordinary response to our Mothers Day event last May, Heritage House is delighted to host a repeat performance by the outrageous Nick Tansley and his local hero sidekicks Andrew London, Danny Fearn and Michael Franklin-Browne, on Fathers Day 7th September.
The band has been playing as ‘The Mod Quad’, a nod to its mostly ‘70s-derived repertoire, for over 30 years at festivals and functions from the Deep South to the Far North of Aotearoa, leaving no sides unsplit or funny bones untickled in their wake.
Born & raised in Invercargill, Nick Tansley was a full time entertainer since the day he left school, and made his way to Wellington in the early 80s to play cabarets in Lower Hutt and at Wellington’s legendary venue The Pines, before becoming The Capital’s best-loved radio personality. His spontaneous wit and jovial personality made him one of the most in-demand MCs in the country, and he hosted several television shows during the 80s and 90s.
This consummate frontman and keyboard wizard started The Mod Squad around 1990, quickly recruiting guitarist Andrew London who had just moved down from Whanganui. With Nick’s media contacts and a repertoire of sure-fire party hits from the 60s and 70s, the band had more work than it could handle. The pace was too much for the bass player who pulled out, at which point Andrew was able to pull in old friend and fellow Whanganui boy Danny Fearn. The two had played together in the 80s at Whanganui’s Fosters tavern.
The Father’s day event on 7th September is $40.00 for the show AND coffee & Tea AND cake. There’ll be plenty of cheesy 70s pop, rock & country hits by The Eagles, John Denver, The Beatles, The Little River Band, Tom Jones and the Doobie Brothers. Groovy Baby!
