A Night with Aotearoa’s Selector Royalty
FriendsAround is a boutique DJ faceoff featuring three heavyweight selectors from the Aotearoa music scene: HUDGE, MANUEL BUNDY, and DAN PAINE. Curated exclusively for Stables, this underground-style session is rooted in deep crate-digging, vinyl mastery, and genre-crossing legacy. Expect genre weaving soul, reggae, disco, hip-hop, house and a night built on music-led mastery.
MANUEL BUNDY is widely regarded as the godfather of New Zealand DJ culture. A founding member of The Turnaround crew, his sets glide from soul and reggae to disco, house and hip-hop. Bundy has supported Gilles Peterson, Kenny Dope and Coldcut, and his influence has shaped generations of Aotearoa DJs.
HUDGE cut his teeth in London before making Tāmaki his home, co-founding the iconic Boog nights with Frank Booker and Lucky Lance. A selector with three decades of history, he blends hip-hop, house, nu-jazz, roots and grime, and has played alongside everyone from Wu-Tang Clan and Mos Def to Nile Rodgers & Chic.
DAN PAINE is a vinyl purist with deep roots in Auckland’s underground. From the Rakinos Café and Low End Theory days to 17 years hosting Off the Record on Base FM, his crates have seen him support DJ Krush, Run the Jewels, Joey Bada$$ and Dam Funk.
This Matakana club night promises no compromises, no gimmicks, just serious music on a serious Martin Audio sound system. Expect a dark and smoky environment to get lost in the music
