GREATSOUTH
Greatsouth is the musical project of ringa toi Māori artist Payton Taplin (Te Rarawa, Ngāti Kahungunu ki Wairarapa), based in Papakura, South Auckland. His sound fuses indie rock with taonga pūoro (traditional Māori instruments), drawing inspiration from artists like King Krule, The Beths and The Sundays, while remaining deeply rooted in te ao Māori. His debut self-titled EP, released in late 2024, was hailed by RNZ’s Music 101 as “one of the best releases of the year”. The EP explores themes of South Auckland history, Māori activism and cultural resilience. Greatsouth’s work is part of a wider movement to normalise Māori presence in genres where it has been historically underrepresented. His latest single, It’s getting hotti, continues this kaupapa, weaving themes of kaitiakitanga and environmental guardianship. Fresh from completing the Big Fan Winter Residency in 2025, Greatsouth is currently working on a new indie rock fusion EP that deepens his exploration of identity, place and sound.
GRETA VAN DEN BRINK
Greta, who first found her way into music after a career in film and stunt performance for Netflix, Amazon, and Apple, has quickly established herself as one of Aotearoa’s most original voices. Her debut single Road to Hell unexpectedly landed on a Netflix soundtrack, setting the stage for a career defined by cinematic storytelling and emotional rawness. From the haunting intimacy of Swimming on a Spoon to the bright hooks of U+I, Greta’s music builds vivid worlds that feel both personal and universal. Greta recently released her new single Chill Cool Girl, which was recorded at BIG FAN and produced by 2024 APRA Silver Scroll Award Winner Noema Te Hau III. The song is part of her forthcoming album, due for release next year, with the entire project recorded at BIG FAN.
TANGERINO
Tangerino is an indie band from Auckland made up of four 18-year-old musicians. Inspired by the sounds of bands like The Strokes and Her’s, they blend jangly guitars, energetic rhythms, and their own fresh twist to create a style that's uniquely theirs. With a focus on songwriting and building their live sound, Tangerino are excited to showcase a set of original songs, marking an early chapter in their journey as a band.
KOSTA SILICH
Kosta Silich is an independent vocalist and guitarist from Kerikeri, Te Tai Tokerau. Specialising in pop-funk artistry, he writes, records and produces music from his bedroom studio. Kosta has already achieved promising feats, including being awarded the 2025 Chloe Wright Scholarship as winner of the Smokefree Rockquest. Kosta is a BIG FAN alumni, having participated in our 2025 Fan Camp Rangatahi.
