PRESS RELEASE:
Formed in 2009, Parents are a mainstay of New Zealand’s hardcore punk community. Underpinned by a distinctive and frantic energy, their sound blends melody and discordance into an unpredictable, cathartic haze.
Great Reward is the new record from Parents - nine songs of expressive hardcore punk recorded by Tim Shann at The Wine Cellar and mixed and mastered by Jack Shirley at The Atomic Garden Recording Studio (Deafheaven, Loma Prieta).
Side-A opens with a looming dirge before descending into a path of dynamic and abrasive bursts that heighten tension along the way. This tension is resolved in the Side-B’s closer, Wounded, an emotional epic that contrasts Western guitar with swirling barrages of noise. As a whole, Great Reward is Parents at their most focussed but further pushes the complexity and desperation that has typified their sound.
Released on 10" vinyl and digital formats, Great Reward is available February 10.
