Hard on the heels of releasing 'AWCWD' last month, seminal Dunedin group The Verlaines have resurfaced with fantastic new single 'Church And State'. The song, which is lifted from upcoming album Dunedin Spleen, features Shayne P Carter (Straitjacket Fits, Dimmer) along with emerging singer Molly Devine, both of whom also star in the accompanying video. Speaking to the song's genesis Verlaines' frontman Graeme Downes wrote:

"'Church and State 'was written before previous video 'AWCWD', pretty much in the wake of the 2012 US presidential election. No tears welled up compared to 2008, mild relief only, in fact I no longer even remember where I was. 'Of the two the world is asking whether one’s the other’s twin, cos its shades of grey and no light of day for the plight some folks are in' pretty much summed it up."

Dunedin Spleen follows on from 2012 offering Untimely Meditations and is slated for release in March/April next year.
