Premiere: Dion Lunadon Unleashes Animalistic Dance Clip For 'Howl'

Friday 26th May, 2017 11:26AM

In the lead-up to releasing his debut solo album next month Dion Lunadon has dropped a brand new video for his shredding rock 'n' roll single 'Howl'. Lunadon, who originally hails from Auckland and is known for fronting The D4 and more recently as one-third of New York outfit A Place To Bury Strangers, penned the solo material during a rush of inspiration while APTBS were taking a short break in touring. Stepping away from his work with the noise-rock trio, the solo material draws influence from the likes of Toy Love, The Gun Club, Gestalt and Supercar. When it came to making the clip for 'Howl', Lunadon recruited his sister Loren to play the lead role, and his friend Reuben Wu (of Ladytron) to direct. Elaborating on the clip, Lunadon told UTR:

"I wanted Loren to emulate the cheeky and fun style when she was entering dance competitions as a kid. All in the form of some sort of human/wolf/thing crossbreed that had its own look. We spent a week experimenting with make up to achieve this."

Speaking of working with Wu on the project, Lunadon added:

"I've known Reuben Wu for a while and felt confident in him capturing my idea. The original concept was to do something a simpler with one take in a white room but Reuben helped take it to the next level, shooting it in a forest reserve just outside of New York City."
