Premiere: Bright Music Drop Summery Debut Single 'Splash'

Wellington artists Nik Brinkman (Physical, Over The Atlantic) and Bevan Smith (Signer, Introverted Dancefloor) have converged on a new pop/dance collaborative project Bright Music, and have shared their sunny debut single ’Splash’ ahead of a forthcoming as-yet-untitled album. Perfectly timed for the increasingly balmy summer, ‘Splash’ is a tropical cocktail of intoxicating beats, synthetic woodwinds, and effervescent snatches of singing, sounding not unlike the soundtrack to an upbeat 80s buddy movie. "In 2010, Nik and Bevan were traveling to the the US to record some new music. Unfortunately, due to bad weather conditions, the flight was diverted to a small island they dubbed ‘Cocorone’. Nik and Bevan were left stranded on this small island for a week, and missed their planned recording sessions. After overcoming their initial disappointment, they walked around the island with laptops and a microphone recording the vibrant local life. They decided to make an album incorporating the sounds they had captured of the ocean, wildlife, buskers, street markets, and even children's birthday parties. The recordings sat on the hard drives until earlier this year when they were rediscovered during sessions for the Ghostwriter’s Collective. They have been completed in time for your summer enjoyment."
