David Byrne New Zealand Tour Announced
Frontman of Talking Heads and trailblazing pop innovator David Byrne is returning to New Zealand this November, with shows lined up for Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. The US artist's hugely influential musical career spans over forty years and his creative spirit remains unquenchable, Byrne's first solo album in fourteen years American Utopia was released to widespread acclaim in March. These will be Byrne's first New Zealand shows since 2009, his current live show features material from throughout his oeuvre (reportedly including lots of Talking Heads songs), played by a twelve piece band - a specially choreographed, stage-designed extravaganza that headlined Coachella 2018 to rave reviews.
David Byrne's artistic achievements could easily fill (and include) a book. He helped kick off New York punk and new wave with Talking Heads in the mid seventies, recorded avant-pop records with fellow sonic adventurers Brian Eno and St. Vincent, founded world music label Luaka Bop, wrote the frequently cited publication How Music Works (2012), contributed to experimental theatre productions with Robert Wilson, the list goes on.
