The Situations Share New Album 'The Day After The Night Before'

Monday 23rd July, 2018 10:03AM

Papakura rockers The Situations have unveiled their third studio album The Day After The Night Before, following a crackling run of fresh-faced singles. The long-running four-piece of Samuel Kett, Stu Kett, Brad Walkington and Glen Casey have been flying the flag for effervescent guitar-pop since joining forces at high school all the way back in 2002, they're currently in the midst of a three-date tour with Rangiora buds Best Bets, which is coming to a conclusion this Saturday at Christchurch's Space Academy. A new collection from The Situations is always a great excuse for a knees-up, the band generously shared a few factual tidbits about their latest sonic creation and upcoming plans...

"We recorded the bulk of the record live in one day when Samuel was back from Oman and Glen was back from fighting in Thailand. We played a show, stayed up late, went to the studio (Frisbee) the next day and got most of the takes that day. We were pretty wired from the night before and hadn’t played much together in months and that zone was probably captured on the record.

From there, a few sessions over the space of about 18 months between Yongjia Lu in Shanghai and Frisbee on Karangahape Road we had to add some backing vocals and a couple of acoustic guitar tracks, etc.

The release is purely online at the moment, but hilariously we will print some CDs and cassettes this week. The album will come out on vinyl a little bit later in the year. Our future aspirations are to hit Europe again soon and we are also in the preliminary stages of planning a tour in Africa."

The Situations are celebrating the release of their new album with Best Bets at Christchurch's Space Academy on Saturday 28th July, for tickets and more info head along here.
