Tiny Ruins Announces National Tour + Shares Single 'How Much'

Tuesday 7th August, 2018 10:01AM

Hollie Fullbrook's Tiny Ruins have announced a three date tour of New Zealand in October and November in celebration of the release of her woozy new song 'How Much', the lead single from her project's keenly anticipated third studio album. The sparkling track is accompanied by a gorgeously shot clip directed by Charlotte Evans and filmed in Titirangi's Lopdell Theatre, conveying dreamy vibes inspired in part by Fullbrook's viewing of a Neil Young video at pop surrealist David Lynch’s home cinema.

Hollie Fullbrook will be accompanied by full band featuring Cass Basil, Alex Freer (aka A.C. Freazy) and Tom Healy for the tour, returning fresh from an extensive run of shows in the UK and Europe. Fullbrook will also be playing solo as Tiny Ruins in Australia alongside Jen Cloher (Milk! Records) and throughout Aotearoa in support of Martin Phillips' long-running group The Chills in September and October. Check out the New Zealand tour dates and watch the video for 'How Much' below...

Press release:

“How much would you be willing to give?” Fullbrook asks point-blank in ‘How Much’, ahead of woozily discordant strings and a stomping neo-psychedelic rhythm. The lyric brims with imagery of supermarket breakdowns, lilos, snarks and silos while an anthemic guitar hook soars throughout. Not content to leave the song at a stable conclusion, a thumping ‘I am the Walrus’-esque bass outro propels the track boomerang-style back to a space of adroit experimentation.

The accompanying video was filmed on location at Titirangi's beautiful Lopdell Theatre. Director Charlotte Evans experimented with real time projections as well as shooting through textured glass and using theatre spotlighting. The concept for the video draws inspiration from abstract music video’s like Laurie Anderson’s O Superman, and the opening and closing shots were inspired by Hollie’s surreal experience watching a Neil Young video at David Lynch’s home cinema.

In celebration of the 'How Much' release, Tiny Ruins will be playing Christchurch, Auckland and Wellington as the full band line up late October - early November.

Prior to these shows, the full band heads to the UK / EU for a month long tour late August through September. On the journey home, Tiny Ruins will tour Australia solo with Milk! Records icon, Jen Cloher preceding supporting The Chills on their nationwide NZ tour.

A group renowned for their electric dynamic live on stage, Tiny Ruins have toured the world many times over in solo and varied group formations. They have played stages across countless cities with Sharon van Etten, Calexico, The Handsome Family and more.
