Watch French Concession's Hyperreal Video 'Empress'
Christchurch via Hong Kong singer and producer French Concession (aka Ella Chau Yin Chi) has unveiled an eye-popping choreographed video for the title track to her latest collection Empress, produced, directed, styled and edited by the artist herself. Shot amongst the hyperreal cityscape of China's Shenzhen, and filmed in part on an astro-turfed roof - which at first glance appears to be green-screened but is not - French Concession sings her dramatic tale while busting moves and flexing colour-clashing, iridescent outfits. The artist shared some words on the origins of her stylish clip...
"It's a video that I shot in Shenzhen. It make visual reference to the 'Big Ma' Chinese fashion (which is typified by older ladies wearing a loud and clashing colourful patterned clothes and accessories) and the plaza dance subculture."
'Empress' is out now on Apple Music, Spotify, Soundcloud, Bandcamp and iTunes via Ball Of Wax.
