Kurt Vile & The Violators New Zealand Shows Announced

Tuesday 11th September, 2018 2:00PM

Philadelphia guitar slinger and ace songwriter Kurt Vile is bringing his band The Violators back to Aotearoa in early 2019, for a pair of shows at Auckland's Powerstation and Wellington's Hunter Lounge in April. If that's not enough excitement for you, the critically revered songsmith has just announced the forthcoming release of his eighth studio album Bottle It In out this October, featuring special guests Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Mary Lattimore, Stella Mozgawa (Warpaint) and Cass McCombs - following last year's collaborative record with Courtney Barnett Lotta Sea Lice - and he's unveiled the new record's mind-bending, nearly ten minute long lead single 'Bassackwards'! It feels like an age since Vile last hit local stages in early 2016, we recommend you don't sleep on these shows. Here are the details...

Press release:

Last here in January 2016, Philadelphia singer and songwriter supreme Kurt Vile is bringing his Violators back to New Zealand, and the timing couldn’t be better if we’d planned it…

Kurt Vile and the Violators play The Powerstation in Auckland on April 11 and The Hunter Lounge in Wellington on April 13, hot on the heels of his sprawling, just-announced new album, Bottle It In.

Out October 12 in New Zealand on Matador via Rhythmethod, Bottle It In is the almighty follow up to last year’s Kurt Vile / Courtney Barnett collaboration, Lotta Sea Lice, and features collaborations with Kim Gordon (Sonic Youth), Mary Lattimore, Warpaint’s Stella Mozgawa and Cass McCombs. If first single Loading Zones and the near-ten-minute, out-today Bassackwards are anything to go by, it’s clear we’re in for another round of sun-soaked, hazy guitar anthems with time and melody to spare.

In 2013, the city of Philadelphia named August 28th 'Kurt Vile Day', and now we’re announcing a couple of dang Kurt Vile days of our own. This is gonna be good.
