Premiere: Hiboux Share Single 'I Shall Wear Midnight' + Video
Wellington post-rockers Hiboux have unveiled 'I Shall Wear Midnight', the gorgeously cinematic lead single for their second studio album Migrations, due out before their six date North Island tour in February 2019. The stunningly shot accompanying video directed by Anna Hildebrandt (Crispy Productions) teams the instrumental tune's lush arrangements with dancer Kyla Bartholomeusz's dramatic choreographed performance and footage of the band playing live in a neon-lit club. Hiboux guitarist and pianist Lester Litchfield lifted the lid on their keenly anticipated upcoming collection...
"This second record will be a bit heavier and a bit more spacious than the first, and we’ve really been sweating the details on the tracks. Trying to make them more emotive and journey-like, with fewer drastic changes. They range from 70s science-doco themes, to more classic post-rock, to heavier songs with tapping and strong rhythms. Some of the members have also been through some tough times, so this is also a record of catharsis. Hopefully it’ll help a few people lift the weight of the world. We played a bunch of shows last year, around NZ and in Australia. This year we decided to focus on writing a new album and have basically retreated to the studio. The way we write is slow, so it's great to be nearing the end. I think we all have a good feeling about this one."
Director Anna Hildebrandt discussed her inspirations for the video...
"I was always thinking about this video with a short film narrative in mind. I love Hiboux’s music for its seductive, haunting charm and I love the dramatic crescendos. And it’s a six-and-a-half minute track so I felt it was important to tell a story with the journey of the music. The beauty of music video however, is that you can use symbolism and metaphor and play around with it a lot more than you can usually do with a film, so creatively this was a dream to work on. I must thank the entire cast and crew for their passion and energy in creating this, and Hiboux for writing such inspiring music.”
Hiboux are touring their upcoming album 'Migrations' throughout the North Island in February 2019, for tickets and more info head along here.
