Los Angeles-via-Wellington songwriter Vera Ellen (Maple Syrup, Girl Friday) has announced the upcoming release of her new solo album Beat Yr Name this October via US label 5 Star Limo, and has unveiled the collection's lead single 'kiss u in the punk'. A beat-driven slice of no-fi electro-punk featuring vocal contributions from Crosby Lloyd (Speck), the tune is accompanied by a gloriously DIY clip filmed by Megan Hullander, utilising a bedroom set, some amazing outfits and home made masks to maximum effect, conjuring appropriately cracked vibes for the song to work its magic. There's also a listening party on the cards for Vera Ellen's eleven track new record that LA fans can keep their eyes and ears out for. The artist kindly shared some words on the themes she's exploring with the new single...

"The song is about feeling as though you can only be your most authentic self when you are performing. It’s about struggling to feel you have much to offer ‘off’ stage. The song also plays on the similarities between performance and sex. The concluding monologue reads, ‘I open my eyes and there she is, sweat dripping down her forehead... And she looks at me, then she looks at them and takes a bow.’"

'Beat Yr Name' is out digitally and on limited edition cassette on Friday 12th October via 5 Star Limo - pre-orders are available here.
