Premiere: Fever Party Share Freewheeling Single 'Nora' + Video

Thursday 20th September, 2018 10:31AM

Auckland garage rock duo Fever Party have unveiled an inspiring skate video for their wig-flipping new single 'Nora'. Increasingly infamous for tearing up local stages since getting the ball rolling earlier this year, the team of Gareth Shute and Jay Purkiss - who have played in such groups as The Conjurors, The Cosbys, The Ruby Suns, The Lurch and Scotland-based The Liberty Bells - are celebrating the release of their head-bobbing number with a show alongside shoegaze / dream-pop crew Dead Little Penny at Cassette Nine on Friday 28th September. Shute kindly lifted the lid on the origins of the freewheeling tune and his self-made accompanying clip...

"The song was inspired by a YouTube documentary I saw about the skater, Nora Vasconcellos, joining the Adidas crew. It's just a nice story about how when she was growing up she ignored the fact she was the only girl at the local skatepark and managed to grow her skills at it to the point where she can now turn pro. When it came to making a video for the song, I obviously wanted to get some skating in there and the whole thing had already got me thinking about how skateboarding started out as an activity that both girls and boys used to do, even at a competition level. So I found a bunch of vintage footage of skate comps in the 60s and put this vid together, which I think matches the energy of the song."
