Laura Lee Lovely Shares Video 'Lights Down'

Wednesday 19th December, 2018 10:58AM

Christchurch dream-pop artist Laura Lee Lovely has shared a charming video for 'Lights Down', the first single unveiled from her upcoming debut solo album, releasing in 2019. Directed by fellow Cantabrian Gemma Syme (aka Instant Fantasy), the clip was entirely shot on an iPhone creating kitschy visuals using #wordup, 3D Brush and Kira Kira apps. In the video we follow Laura Lee Lovely through the lush greenery of the South Island with scattered appearances from two young dancers, Maddy Thomson and Alisha Isaac. Syme lifted the lid on the DIY creative process for 'Lights Down'...

“I am really interested in using phone apps to create visuals and videos so went to Laura with the idea of using the #wordup, 3D Brush and Kira Kira apps for one of her new songs.

At the time Laura was working with dancers from Levings Dance School for the stunning Output Project. We auditioned dancers and chose Maddy and Alisha for the shoot to represent Hazel’s energy and inner emotions. We wanted dancers who showed real individualism and freedom in their dancing.

Most of the video was shot in Christchurch on an iPhone in one day. The apps were a bit glitchy but everyone on the shoot was super awesome so that made up for the temperamental equipment!”
