As 2018 draws to a close, Kody Nielson (Unknown Mortal Orchestra, Silicon) has unveiled a twelve-part audio-visual masterpiece to accompany his instrumental solo album Birthday Suite, considered to be a highlight of the year for some listeners. The record features an intricately composed selection of synth-baroque tunes celebrating the births of Nielson's family members and friends, the new film directed by Sam Kristofski fleshes out the album's alternate dimension of retro-futuristic signifiers with an array of evocative and surreal images and scenarios.
