Karen O & Danger Mouse Share Single 'Woman'

Wednesday 16th January, 2019 9:14AM

Only last week we shared a stylish clip for Yeah Yeah Yeahs singer Karen O's superb recent collaboration with NYC post-punks Parquet Courts and Italian composer Daniele Luppi, produced by US studio kingpin Danger Mouse. Things must have clicked, as Karen O and Danger Mouse are currently working on an album together named Lux Prima, and today have revealed the collection's second single 'Woman'. Fans of the singer's spine-tingling vocals won't be disappointed, Karen O's chorus "I'm a woman / Don't you see" hits like a lightning bolt accompanied by Danger Mouse's dramatic backdrop of garbage-can rock 'n' roll and otherworldly Shangri-Las-esque harmonies. 'Woman' comes with a vivid visualiser clip co-directed by Warren Fu and Julian Gross you can vibe out to below, and there's hints of a fiery video starring Karen O on the way.

Karen O explained in statement: “Woman” came like a bolt out of the blue when we were in the studio. We did a first pass where I was blurting unintelligible words and Danger Mouse and I were like “Dang! That was intense. What’s that word I keep saying? Woman.” The atmosphere was volatile with it being just after the election. A lot of people felt helpless like you do when you’re a scared kid looking for assurance that everything is gonna be alright. I like to write songs that anyone can relate to but this one felt especially for the inner child in me that needed the bullies out there to know you don’t fuck with me. I’m a woman now and I’ll protect that inner girl in me from hell and high water.

'Lux Prima' is out Friday 15th March via BMG.
