Jasmine Guffond New Zealand Show + Exhibition Announced
Berlin-based electronic composer and sound artist Jasmine Guffond is visiting Aotearoa this March, with a special headline performance lined up for Auckland's Samoa House alongside local sonic visionaries Rachel Shearer (Lovely Midget), Rosy Parlane and Derya Parlak. Guffond's multi-varied and probing recorded work encompasses the outsider folk of 2008's The Demolition Series along with recent digitally-focussed collections Traced and 2018's Degradation Loops. The event is organised Auckland experimental music facilitators the Audio Foundation, Guffond will also be artist in residence at the organisation's Central Auckland hub throughout March, presenting her exhibition Sonic Profiles, which "sonifies the meta-data from the twitter accounts of well-known public entities: Donald Trump, Narendra Modi, Justin Bieber, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga," opening on the 7th with a performance on the 9th. The artist reflected on her diverse practice in a recent feature in The Wire, stating "I think sound is a unique way of experiencing data because it can be sensual, you can feel it." Berlin-based electronic composer and sound artist Jasmine Guffond makes a special appearance in Aotearoa New Zealand this March to perform one concert only at Samoa House, Auckland. Guffond will also exhibit current sound work at the Audio Foundation.
From the outsider folk of 2008's The Demolition Series, to her compelling 'sonification' of surveillance data in the highly acclaimed Traced, to the digital devolution of 2018's Degradation Loops, Guffond’s inquisitive and humanistic response to the world shines through in her poetic shaping of sound, data and composition.
