Quelle Chris Shares Single 'Obamacare' + Animated Video
Brooklyn-via-Detroit rapper and producer Quelle Chris has shared a mind-bending clip for his ominous new single ‘Obamacare’. Built on a bed of foreboding keys, an insistent, low end-resonant drum beat and the artist’s acerbic lyrical bars, the track is lifted from the artist's forthcoming sixth solo album Guns, hot on the heels of last year’s excellent collaborative record with his life partner Jean Grae Everything Is Fine. The rapper also made the track's off-the-wall animated video, depicting the rapper floating through a turbulent parallel universe of collaged pop cultural detritus, featuring eye-patched cats, disembodied entities and other amorphous, unreassuring concepts. Experience the clip below and read Quelle Chris’ insight into its creation…
“Like most of my visuals I try to find the place where proper pairing and a good excuse to try my hand at something I always loved as a kid meet. The video for Obamacare is an homage to many of my favorite PBS, Sesame Street shorts with a touch of Terry Gilliam (and I mean a drip. Trust me I know my place. Lol). It’s one of my favorite songs on the album so I figured doing collage work in the style of my favorite era of animation was fitting. About 95% of the video was taken from the pages of archived magazines. Next video will likely be animatronics if this trend continues.”
'Guns' is out Friday 29th March via Mello Music Group.
