Auckland-based four piece Alae have lifted the lid on a fresh single titled ‘Help You Now’.  The soulful lead track from the group's forthcoming second album sees the team of Alex Farrell-Davey, Allister Meffan, Jayden Lee and Marika Hodgson in a more pop-leaning mode compared to the folky feelings of their recent album Henry St. The tune's anthemic vocal lines ooze influence from the likes of local pop exports Lorde or Kimbra, while delicate synth lines and guitar arpeggios elicit deep emotional engagement. Stream ‘Help You Now’ below and read vocalist Alex Farrell-Davey's insights into the song and Alae’s latest musical evolution...

"'Help You Now' is about facing your fears. It's about talking about what it is that's hurting you, what it is that's scaring you and allowing people to help. The lyrics are an attempt to normalize the process of opening up to others.

Traditionally Alister and I have been the lead songwriters but ‘Help You Now’ is one of the first songs that we’ve written as a collective, since Jayden and Marika joined the band. The change in how we write has injected a lot of new energy into the final result. We’re really excited about the progression of our next album; we’re working with (producer) Jol Mulholland again, but changing things up with this collaborative approach”.

Alae are playing at Auckland’s Flight 605 this evening (sold out sorry).
